Women's Basketball Falls to Tufts, 61-38

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College women's basketball team dropped a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup against the No. 8 ranked Tufts Jumbos on Friday evening, 61-38. The Bantams fall to 10-8 overall and 0-7 in conference action while Tufts improves to 19-2 and remains perfect in NESCAC play.

Trinity stayed close with the Jumbos in the first half as they trailed the visitors by just four after 20 minutes of play. Tufts, however, came out of break determined as they shot 53.3% from the field on 8-15 shooting to open a 21-point lead entering the final quarter. Tufts outscored the Bantams 21-3 in the third quarter with the only Trinity points coming on a jump shot by senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) and a free throw by senior captain guard Lexi Menard (Wallingford, Conn.).

The Jumbos finished the game shooting 42.9% from the field while they limited the Bantams to 15-47 shooting on the evening. Turnovers plagued Trinity as they committed 21 giveaways compared to just 12 from Tufts. Griffin led the Bantams with 13 points and six rebounds, followed by Menard and freshman Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) who finished with six points each.

For Tufts, Melissa Baptista (Somerville, Mass.) finished with 12 points to go along with five steals, followed by Michelle Wu (Monroe, Conn.) who also finished with 12 points, and Michela North (Duxbury, Mass.) who tallied 10 points and nine boards.

Trinity returns to action tomorrow, February 6, when they play host to the Bates Bobcats for Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
