Men's Lacrosse Loses Battle at Bowdoin

Box Score

Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin Polar Bears held off a late Trinity rally to win their seventh consecutive game on Saturday, 10-8, in men's lacrosse action at a rainy Ryan Field in Maine. Trinity falls to 2-6 on the year and 1-4 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play with five of the team's six losses coming to nationally ranked teams.

Trinity had a 2-1 lead after the first quarter of action thanks to goals from freshman Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) and senior tri-captain Seth Bird (Concord, Mass.). Bowdoin came back with goals from Matthew Crowell (Medfield, Mass.), Clayton Wright (Summit, N.J.) and Shawn Daly (Marshfield, Mass.) that gave the hosts a 4-2 lead they did not relinquish. After another goal from Knaus cut the lead to 4-3, the Polar Bears scored three consecutive goals to take a 7-3 lead into the half.

The teams traded goals to open the second half but Bowdoin maintained a 10-5 midway through the third period. Sparked by a pair of goals from Stefan Pappas (Millstone, N.J.), the Bantams rolled off three straight scores to close the gap to 10-8 heading into the fourth. Bowdoin's defense clamped down in the fourth quarter to secure the win as the Polar Bears forced eight turnovers and goaltender Peter Mumford (Plymouth, N.H.) was forced to make just one save.

Bowdoin outshot the Bantams 43-31 on the afternoon as Trinity goalie Henry Coote (Wayne, Pa.) finished with 16 saves in net for Trinity. The Polar Bears also won the ground ball battle (29-21) and faceoffs (15-6).

Trinity returns to action on Wednesday when they play hosts to the Conn. College Camels in a NESCAC matchup at 7 p.m.
