Men's Lacrosse Drops Tilt Versus Bowdoin

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-6 matchup versus New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field in Hartford. Trinity falls to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in league play while Bowdoin, ranked No. 18 in the nation, improves to 6-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference action.

Trinity sophomore Ben Knaus (Ross, Calif.) paced the Bantam attack with a game-high four goals while senior co-captain Aidan Keohane (Westwood, Mass.), senior Reid McCool (Gulf Stream, Fla.) and junior Matt Barker (Sudbury, Mass.) each tallied a pair of caused turnovers. Bowdoin saw four players find the back of the net twice as Jimmy Young (Exeter, N.H.), Shawn Daly (Marshfield, Mass.), Matthew Crowell (Medfield, Mass.) and Brett Kujala (Maple Ridge, B.C.) tallied two goals each. The Polar Bears won 16-of-22 faceoffs thanks to the work of Sam Carlin (New Albany, Ohio) who had a game-high 13 ground balls.

Knaus scored his first of the day less than a minute into the first quarter to kick off the day's scoring but the Polar Bears answered with five-straight goals stretching into the second quarter. Crowell tied the game at 1-1 at the 13:20 mark before goals by Nick Conway (Westwood, Mass.), Jake Crossman (Marshfield, Mass.) and Daly opened up a 4-1 Bowdoin lead at the end of the first. Crowell scored again to open the second quarter before Bantam junior John Caraviello (Wellesley, Mass.) and Knaus scored 33 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 5-3 entering the half.

Bowdoin pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Trinity 4-0 to open up a 9-3 lead with one quarter left to play. The two sides traded goals in the fourth quarter with sophomore Troy Hanlon (New Vernon, N.J.) and Knaus finding the back of the net for the Bantams, but Bowdoin scores by Young, Daly and Kujala kept the game out of reach for Trinity.

The Bantams return to action on April 5th for a NESCAC contest at home against Connecticut College at 7 p.m.
