Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College women's basketball team ran away with a 68-48 victory over the visiting Eastern Connecticut State Warriors on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Trinity Tip-Off Tournament inside of Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 2-0 on the year while the Warriors fall to 1-1. In the tournament's consolation game at 1 p.m., it was the Roger Williams Hawks which came out on the right side of an 84-72 game versus the Mitchell College Mariners.

Trinity senior Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team thanks to a 13 point performance in today's championship game while junior Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) was selected as the tournament MVP after tallying seven points, nine assists, six rebounds and two steals today. Mya Villard (Cromwell, Conn.) earned All-Tournament honors for ECSU while Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) did so for Roger Williams and Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) for Mitchell.  

Bantam rookie Kaylen Campbell (Hillsborough, N.C.) turned in a career performance, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting (4-of-7 from beyond the arc) coming off the bench. Trinity shot just under 46% from the floor as a team and won the rebound battle, 30-20. The Warriors were led by Villard who finished with 14 points and nine boards, but the team was plagued by a 0-for-13 shooting performance from downtown. 

Both teams came out of the gates slow, ending the first quarter tied at 10-10. Trinity exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors, 21-8, to take a 31-18 lead into the break. Erickson scored eight of her 13 points in the second frame while Campbell got hot from beyond the arc, hitting three triples to help give the hosts a 13-point halftime advantage. The Bantam defense stymied the Warriors, holding them to a 3-of-12 clip in the second quarter while forcing six turnovers.

The third quarter was more of the same as ECSU turned the ball over seven times and Trinity connected on 50% of its shots. Senior Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) scored six points in the frame while Kabarai came away with two steals to help extend the lead to a commanding, 52-28. ECSU showed some life late in the fourth quarter, creating three steals and six Trinity turnovers thanks to a late-game full-court press, however the comeback bid proved to be too little too late, as the Bantams held on for the 20-point victory.
