Trinity Men's Lacrosse Loses Season Opener Against Williams

Hartford, Conn.— The Trinity College men's lacrosse team fell to the No. 4-ranked Williams College Ephs, 13-6, on in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field. The Bantams return to action on the road Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Curry College.  Junior Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.) scored twice for Trinity.  

Kevin Stump and Cory Lund scored two goals each in the first nine minutes to give Williams a quick 4-0 lead. Trinity responded with a goal in the first quarter by sophomore Jackson Wood (Alexandria, Va.) with 2:16 left to play.  In the second quarter, Williams scored three more goals before the Bantams could answer. Cahill scored his first five minutes into the quarter and his next one came with 4:22 to go, making the score 9-3 at halftime.

The Bantams outscored the Ephs in the third, 2-1, with goals by sophomores Reid McDonald (Aldie, Va.) and Luke Valentino (Little Silver, N.J.) that pulled Trinity within five at 10-5.  Starting off the fourth quarter, Williams stretched their lead to 13-5 with three goals in the first five minutes. The Bantams closed the scoring with a goal by senior captain Andrew Collins (Brookfield, Conn.) at the 2:09 mark of the fourth quarter.  Trinity finished with 29 shots, led by Cahill with nine. The Ephs took 34 shots, with 24 on goal. Trinity rookie Patrick Grimes and Williams' Harry Gahagan had 12 saves apiece.
