Trinity Women's Lacrosse Smothers Bates in Home Opener

HARTFORD, Conn. – Seniors Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) scored six goals apiece to lead the Trinity College women's lacrosse team to a 19-5 victory over Bates College in its home opener this weekend. The Bantams improve to 3-0 with a 2-0 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play while Bates falls to 1-3 (0-2 NESCAC). Trinity resumes action this Wednesday, taking on SUNY Geneseo at 6:30 p.m. on Robin L. Sheppard Field. Bates battles Skidmore College on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
 
The Bantam's home opener was played over the course of two days, as Trinity jumped out to an 11-2 lead on Saturday with 8:36 remaining before halftime but both teams were pulled off the field by the officials due to inclement weather. Play resumed on Sunday at 1 p.m. and the Bantams continued to dominate on the attack scoring seven unanswered goals. Both Khosrowshahi and Taylor scored four goals on Saturday and added a two more each during Sunday's conclusion. Junior Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) registered her second hat trick of the season and also tallied a pair of assists. Meanwhile, Samantha Booma (Marblehead, Mass.), Casey Ward (Norwell, Mass.), Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Caitlyn Buermann (West Caldwell, N.J.) each contributed goals for the Bantams. 
 
Bates' Jordyn Tveter scored the first goal of the game for the Bobcats in the first quarter while Caroline Taggart brought the score to 9-2 for Bates in the second period. The visitors then added their final three tallies in the fourth from Chloe Robinson, Sadie O'Neil and Kate Loughlin. Trinity senior Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) picked up her third win in net making four saves while classmate Addie Newsome (Groton, Mass.) closed out the game and recorded four saves of her own. Cammie Lavoie played all 60 minutes for Bates and made nine stops for the Bobcats.
