Trinity Women's Lacrosse Shocked At Home By Geneseo State

HARTFORD, Conn. - Hannah Mariofoti keyed a 5-1 run to close the game with two goals and two assists in the final 8:30 to lead the visiting SUNY Geneseo Knights to a 14-13 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in women's lacrosse action this evening at Sheppard Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 17 in the nation, falls to 3-1 and the Knights are now 3-1.  Trinity visits No. 5-ranked Middlebury in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest on Saturday at noon.  Senior attacker Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) paced the Bantam offense with four goals.

The first half was played evenly with five tie scores, but back-to-back goals by junior attacker Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Taylor in a 1:08 span late in the second quarter made the score, 8-6, at the break.  After another Ives goal early in the third quarter, the Knights rattled off three goals in a row to tie the game at 9-9 with 5:48 left before the last break.  Trinity went back ahead, 9-6, as senior attacker Lilianna Khowsrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal, converted a second on a feed by classmate Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), and assisted Kirkpatrick on a third tally.

Marfioti scored a game-tying and go-ahead goal for Geneseo State late in the fourth to make it, 13-12, in the visitors' favor, but Taylor tied it for a final time with her fourth goal at the 2:17 mark during a player advantage for Trinity.  The Knights won the ensuing draw control and Mariofoti assisted Emily Salanger on the game-winner with 49 seconds left.  The Knights won the final draw and held the ball to the final whistle. Khosrowshahi scored three times and and Ives scored twice to join Taylor to give Trinity three multiple goal scorers.  Both also had an assist, while sophomore Quincy Connell (New Canaan, Conn.) was stellar defensively with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.  Senior tri-captain Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) made 10 saves for the Bantams.  Marafioti totaled eight points on three goals and five assists, while Emily DeJohn had eight saves for Geneseo State.  Trinity forced 21 turnovers but the Knights finished with a 19-11 advantage on the draw.
