Trinity Women's Lacrosse Overpowered at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Hope Shue scored four goals while three other Panthers each recorded hat tricks to lead Middlebury College to an 18-8 win over the Trinity College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in New England Small College (NESCAC) Athletic Conference play. The Bantams are now 3-2 with a 2-1 mark in conference play while Middlebury improves to 4-0 (3-0 NESCAC). Next on the slate for Trinity is a 4 p.m. matchup this Monday at St. John Fisher College while the Panthers head to York, Pa. on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. tilt with York College.

Middlebury opened up play with four-straight goals with Jane Early netting two and leaving the Bantams in an early hole with 6:37 remaining in the first quarter. Senior Christine Taylor put the Blue and Gold on the board with a free position score in the back end of the first period. After trailing 10-4 at halftime, Lily Ives put the first goal of the second half in the back of the net just nine seconds into action and cut the Trinity deficit to five but the Panthers would respond with five-goal scoring barrage and take full command with a 15-5 advantage with 2:47 remining before the fourth quarter.

The Bantams were outshot 34-21 and were bested on ground balls 17-10 but held the draw control advantage at 16-10. Samantha Booma and Ives each recorded a pair of goals for Trinity while Gabriella Young made 10 saves and Annie Enrietto recorded seven stops in net for Middlebury. In addition to Shue's four-goal performance for the Panthers, Jane Earley, Lily Riseberg, and Niki Mormile each tallied three goals for the home squad.
