PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Junior attacker
Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) had three goals and an assist to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 9-7 victory over the St. John Fisher College Cardinals in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Growney Stadium. The Bantams, ranked No. 18 in the nation, improve to 4-2 and snap a two-game losing skid. No. 21-ranked St. John Fisher drops to 1-3. Trinity visits Springfield next on Thursday, March 24 at 4 p.m.
Trinity dominated the first half, scoring all eight goals before intermission, including the first two of the game by Ives and three by senior attacker
Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.). The Cardinals woke up and scored the only five goals of the third quarter, but both defenses turned up the intensity and neither offense was able to break through until 12 minutes in when Brittany Halpin weaved her way through Trinity's back line before scoring with 3:49 still showing on the clock. Trinity scored its first goal in nearly 30 minutes when Ives completed her hat trick unassisted to push the visitors' lead back to three. The Cardinals won the ensuing draw but did were not able to get off a shot until a free position with 14 seconds left that was converted but too little, too late.
The Bantams outshot the Cardinals, 26-15, and forced 26 turnovers but came up short on 13 of 20 draws. Senior
Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) had a goal and an assist to join Ives and Khosrowshahi as multiple point scorers, while senior tri-captain
Samantha Booma (Marblehead, Mass.) added a team-high five draw control. In the Trinity goal, senior tri-captain
Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) made four saves and scooped a team-high three ground balls. Courtney O'Dea led St. John Fisher with five points including three goals, Lilly Goodsell finished with seven Cardinal saves.
