HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior
Patrick Dillon (Bronx, N.Y.) went 5-for-7 and scored two runs to lead the Trinity College baseball team to a double-header sweep over Bates College on Saturday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. The Bantams took game one, 6-5 walking off in the bottom of the eighth and won game two, 4-1. Trinity improves to 8-5 with a 2-0 conference record while Bates falls to 2-14 and 0-2 in NESCAC games. Both teams will battle again tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Murren Family Field.
In game one, Bates took an early four-run lead in the top of the first with Bryan Gotti sending a three-run homer over the right field fence. Trinity responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the first and second while adding three in the third as sophomore
James Stefanowicz (Stamford, Conn.) ripped a two RBI triple into the right center gap, scoring senior
Colin Mann (Dedham, Mass.) and sophomore
Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.).
In the bottom of the eighth with the score tied at five runs apiece in what was a scheduled seven inning game, back-to-back walks put runners on first and second. Junior
Brandon Chow (Greenwich, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice which pushed pinch runner
Yoshi Omi-Jarrett (Mill Valley, Calif.) to third. Sophomore
Jack Mathews (Westport, Conn.) then recorded an sacrifice fly to center with Omi-Jarrett scoring the game winning run. Senior James Fahey pitched five innings and recorded six strikeouts while junior
Cooper McGrath pitched the game's final three innings to earn his third win of the season.
Game two saw the Bobcats scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first but Trinity would not surrender another run for the remainder. Senior
Mike Guanci (Wakefield, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to walk in Dillon for the lead in the third while sophomore
Bennett Teceno (Centerville, Mass.) and junior
Jake Miller (Marblehead, Mass.) each singled in the fifth to drive runs in. First-year
Michael Aceto (Hamden, Conn.) pitched 4.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn his second win of the 2022 season while senior
William Simeone (Milton, Mass.) struck out the side in the top of the seventh to close out the game for the Bantams.
