Trinity Baseball Pulls Off Double-Header Sweep Against Bowdoin

HARTFORD, Conn. – Sean Meth went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a homerun to lead the Trinity College baseball team to a double-header sweep over Bowdoin College on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action. Trinity took the first game in a tight battle 8-6, but rolled through the Polar Bears in game two as first-year Michael Aceto (Hamden, Conn.) pitched eight shutout innings to help Trinity to a 7-0 victory. The Bantams improve to 10-8 with a 4-2 mark in the conference and face Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. at 4 p.m. on Tuesday while Bowdoin slips to 8-12 (1-2 NESCAC).

Trinity scored five runs in the second inning of game one with back-to-back home runs from Meth and senior Colin Mann (Dedham, Mass.) followed by an RBI from James Stefanowicz (Stamford, Conn.) and a third Bantam blast over the fence as sophomore Bennett Teceno (Centerfield, Mass.) took the ball to right field to give Trinity an early 5-0 lead. The Blue and Gold then added two more the following inning to take a 7-0 lead. However, a big sixth inning for the Polar Bears generated five runs and brought the game to within two. Senior William Simeone entered the game for Trinity with Bowdoin's tying runs on base and stuckout his first batter faced and forced his next to fly out to center field to end the game and earn his second save of the season. Junior Cooper McGrath (South Hamilton, Mass.) pitched five innings with no earned runs and seven strikeouts earning the win on the mound and moving to 4-0 this year.

In game two Aceto was lights out, pitching eight shutout innings and striking out nine batters for the Bantams. Trinity lead 2-0 for five innings but had a stellar eighth inning scoring five runs thanks to Tanner Fairchild who drove in two runs on a single up the middle followed by a Stefanowicz RBI and a Jack Mathews two RBI single to right center to give the home squad a 7-0 lead. Simeone closed out the game in the ninth with a one-two-three inning.
