Simas Nets Game-Tying Goal in 1-1 Draw at #21 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — At the 57th mark, Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) netted the game-tying goal and kept the Trinity College women's soccer team alive in the 1-1 draw at New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Wesleyan University on Saturday. Trinity improved to 2-1-3 and 1-0-2, while No. 21 Wesleyan moved 4-1-1 and 1-0-1. The Bantams host league foe Tufts University on Sunday with 2 p.m. matchup.

"Wesleyan is always a strong team that's very dangerous in the attack so keeping them to one goal was huge for us going into the second half," head coach Rachael Schroeder said "In the second half, we were able to make some adjustments and the momentum shifted which led to a great goal by Tori — and a great assist by Elena. While we had chances to win it, we will take the point knowing Wesleyan is a top team."

Waverly Myers opened the first half off the assist from Kerenza Leahey at the 13th mark for only the Cardinals' second shot of the game, following a Bantam foul. The hosts only attempted a pair of shots in the opening half as Mariana Cournoyer (St. Paul, Minn.) denied one shot. Trinity fired three shots in the first half as Molly Brumbach recorded a pair of saves at the eight minute mark. Simas' goal was the first shot for the Navy & Gold in second half to knot the game at one apiece. Elena Lindonen (Boxford, Mass.) dribbled the ball before passing it to Simas who connected for a low goal to the left of the net.

The visitors attempted three more shots to try and take the lead, but only Sami Olsen's shot near the top of the net came close to putting Trinity up as Brumbach made her last save as the final buzzer sounded. Cournoyer notched four saves in the Bantams' net, while Brumback stopped a trio for the Cardinals.
