#1 Women's Squash Downed #7 Yale, 8-1

HARTFORD, Conn. – #1 Women's Squash were victorious on the hardwood despite having two of their best players not in the starting nine. Bantams solidified an 8-1 win over the visiting #7 Yale Bulldogs. Trinity grows their record 11-0, while the Bulldogs drop 6-3.

The first three rallies were collected by Bantams with Madeleine Hylland sweeping her Yale opponent with set scores of 11-4, 11-6, 15-13. Lulu Palacios Benitez collected a 3-1 victory over her Bulldog opponent with scores of 7-11, 11-7, 11-1, 11-4. Junior Janna El Ashmawy rallied for five sets winning the second and third with generous leads of 11-2 and 11-7. Yale's Rashi Goverdhanam would secure the fourth set, 11-9, tying the match 2-2. Ashmawy solidified the win after pulling away with a five point lead closing out the match 11-6.

Hannah Chukwu wrapped up her match in nineteen minutes, collecting a 3-0 sweep over Yale's Mika Bardin (11-6, 11-8, 11-9). Zaynab Khan made her first appearance in the top nine for the Bantams, in her match after three close battles she was bested in her rallies falling 3-0 to Bulldogs Lindsay Westerfield (7-11, 8-11, 6-11). Senior Nouran Youssef took the first two sets by storm with scores of 11-8 and 11-2. The third rally stayed close as each player knotted up the score multiple times sending the score into the lower teens. Youssef persevered and collected a match point after a 14-12 victory over Bulldogs Sneha Sivakumar.

Noa Romero made her top 9 debut against the Bulldogs where she swept her opponent in three holding her to only one point in the second set (11-7, 11-1, 13-11). Kara Lincou battled on the hardwood for five sets against Gigi Yeung, collecting a 3-2 victory after set scores of 11-13, 11-6, 5-11, 11-5, 11-4. Jana Safy competed in the final match of the day collecting back-to-back wins after an intense second rally, 23-21. Safy ws bested in the third set and fourth set, falling 11-8 and 11-7,  match knotted 2-2. Bantams junior built a 6-3 point lead, holding the Bulldog to only two more points in the set, closing out the match 3-2.

Bantams will compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship on Feb10th -Feb 11th hosted in Amherst, Mass.
