Softball Split Conference Opener Against Hamilton

HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity Softball hosted Hamilton College on their home turf for a New England Small College Athletic Conference on Sunday afternoon. Bantams split the day winning, 4-3, to open up the day and falling 4-1 in game two to the Continentals. Bantams are 8-6, 1-1 overall while Hamilton sits 9-7, 3-1 overall. Trinity stay on their turf as they host the University of Saint Joseph (CT) on March 26th at 3:30PM.

GAME 1. Bantams def. Hamilton:
  •  Gianna Tito sent in the first run of the day in the bottom of the third inning with a single to the shortstop sending home Taylor Mikolajczak for an RBI.
  • Hamilton would knock in their first two runs in the top of the 6th, lifting them into the lead 2-1. E. Tanksy hit a single, advancing A. Mayer to third where she would then score off of an error by the Bantams pitcher. With the bases loaded N. Beebe grounded out to second base advancing all the runners for an RBI. 2-1 Ham. 
  • In the bottom of the 6th bases loaded, Isabella Calagna would poke the ball through the left side for a double RBI, causing a lead change 3-2.
  • Abigail Alper flied out to right field for a sacrifice fly, RBI to lift the Bantams to a 4-2 lead at the close of the 6th inning.
  • Hamilton's score their 3rd and final run of the game due to a wild pitch with the bases loaded to allow S. Santana to score. 
  • Taylor Mikolajczak went 3-for-3, registering a triple, a stolen base, and scoring two runs.
  • Tiffany Stowers tossed for the first 6 innings, returning in the in the 7th to close out the final two batters to secure the 4-3 win over the Continentals. Stowers tossed 2 strikeouts, allowing 2 runs and 5 hits.
GAME 2: Hamilton def. Trinity
  • Gianna Tito knocked in the first run of game two with a triple into center field sending home Mikolajczak's in the fourth inning, Bantams up 1-0.
  • Hamilton would post three runs in the 6th inning with a single from A. Zorn to the pitcher advancing a runner to third and Mayer scoring. Score knotted 1-1.
  • With one out the continentals' Zorn steals second and now have two runners in scoring positions at second and third. Hamiltons' Rogers lined out to third leaving both runners at their base. G. Garrison would sneak one up the middle for a single, sending both Hamilton runners home to grow their lead 3-1. 
  • Bantams got out of the sixth inning as Makenna True threw down to second to catch Garrison stealing. 
  • Kennedy Rogers went 2-for-3 with one base on ball against Hamilton in game two.
  • Erin Girard tossed for 6 innings tallying 2 strikeouts, allowing 9 hits and three runs.
  • Kaysen Shikar would step into the circle for the Bantams in the 7th recording 1 strikeout, allowing 1 hit and one run to score.
