HARTFORD, Conn. - Bantams downed the visiting University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays 4-1 on the Trinity Softball Field Tuesday afternoon. The Bantams are lifted 9-6 in the season, while the Blue Jays fall 5-8. Trinity will be back in action on their home turf Saturday, March 30th as they host Bowdoin College for a New England Small College Athletic Conference double header, their first conference matchup of the season.
Bantams recorded their first runs of the game in the second inning due to an error on the Blue Jays second baseman allowing Makenna True to reach first, advancing Emily Goddard to second and sending home Erin Steed. Kaysen Shakir pitched a 1-2-3 inning at the top of the third keeping it a 1-0 game. Senior Gianna Tito collected her second career home run with a solo shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the third, lifting the Bantams 2-0 in the non-conference play.
In the bottom of the 6th to begin the inning Annika Hayley stepped in as a pinch runner for Isabella Calagna, Hayley then advancee to second after a sacrifice bunt from Abigail Alper. With one out and a runner on second, Erin Steed would double, her second of the game, to left center sending Hayley home for the third run of the game. The final run is sent in with a 3-bagger by Makenna True deep to right field.
Kaysen Shikar threw for the full game logging 7 innings with 10 strikeouts, 6 fly outs, 5 ground outs allowing only 3 hits with one run scored. Shikar registered her second win of the season, with a 2-2 record midway through the year.
