Men's Soccer Falls To Wesleyan, 5-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team fell to visiting Wesleyan University, 5-0, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) meeting at Trinity Soccer Field Wednesday night. The Bantams dip to 1-2 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play, while the Cardinals improved to 2-0-1 overall and 1-0 in NESCAC action.

In the 18th minute of action, Wesleyan sophomore Yousuf Saeed caused a turnover deep in the Bantams zone and played a quick heel pass to classmate Joshwin Jennings, who dribbled to the top of the box and fired a shot between two defenders and past Trinity junior keeper Felix Schmidt to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

With just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Jennings struck again as he received a pass from sophomore Dylan Clack in midfield outside the box and fired a low shot from 30 yards out past the diving attempt by Schmidt to extend the lead to 2-0.

Just over eight minutes later, the Bantams were whistled for a handball inside their box, resulting in a penalty kick attempt for the Cardinals. Wesleyan senior Zack Burd beat Schmidt to the right side on the attempt to hand the Cards a 3-0 lead heading into the half.

The Cardinals netted a pair of goals in the second half, both coming in an eight-minute window. In the 72nd minute, Crack got a header on a throw-in attempt from Burd inside the far post to make it a 4-0 game. The Cardinals final strike came with 10:35 to play as first-year Calder Truesdale deflected in an attempted clear by the Bantams to set the final score at 5-0.

The Cardinals outshot the Bantams, 19-10, during the contest. Schmidt made five saves for the Bantams, while Wesleyan junior goalkeeper Mathis Blanc stopped five shots in the win.

The Bantams will look to return to the win column when they travel to Middlebury College for a NESCAC tilt at Noon. Wesleyan visits Hamilton College in NESCAC action at 2:00 p.m.
