Hartford, Conn. - Junior guard Tess Donie (Worcester,
Mass.) and freshman guard Michelle Royals
(Torrington, Conn.) each scored 17 points to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to an 80-61 win over the visiting Colby
College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's basketball action this evening at Oosting
Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 15-2 overall and 3-1 in the
NESCAC with its second consecutive victory, while the Mules fall to
9-8 overall and 1-3 in the league with their second loss in a row.
Ahead by three, 32-29, at the half, Trinity rattled off the
first seven points after the break and eventually extended its lead
to as many as 15 points en route to the double-digit triumph.
Trinity trailed early, 10-7, but used a 10-0 run to take a 17-10
lead midway through the first half. The Bantams led, 32-25,
with one minute left in the first half, but Colby freshman center
Jilian Vaughan (Medfield, Mass.) sank four free
throws to pull the Mules within three at intermission.
Trinity shot 53.8 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from
the foul line in the second half to reach 80 points for the first
time since November of 2007, while the Bantam defense held the
Mules to 25.7 percent field goal shooting in the second half and
33.9 percent for the game. Five Trinity players finished in
double figures in scoring, as junior co-captain guard Claire
Arnstein (Hicksville, N.Y.) finished with 13 points, classmate
Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) had 12 points,
including 10 in the second half, and sophomore guard
Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) came off the
bench to add 10. Card and sophomore center Molly
McGlynn (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) paced the Bantams with eight
rebounds apiece, while Card and Fahey each dished out five assists,
and Card also had three steals and a blocked shot.
Freshman guard Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) led
Colby with 17 points and added three steals, while junior guard
Sam Allen (Bridgton, Maine) score 14 points, and
sophomore center Julianne Kowalski (Montville,
N.J.) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
