Hartford, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons
came back from a three goal deficit to tie the Trinity College
Bantams 4-4 in men's ice hockey action at Williams Rink in the
Koeppel Community Sports Center tonight. Trinity is now 3-1-1
on the season, while UMass moves to 4-1-1.
Trinity senior captain Richard Hollstein (Pembroke,
Mass.) got the scoring started with a goal 7:53 into the
game to give the Bantams a 1-0 edge. Massachusetts freshman
Michael Crowder (Flint, Mich.) answered 3:20 later
to knot the game at one apiece.
It was all Trinity for the majority of the second period as the
Bantams netted three goals courtesy of junior Adam Houli
(Howell, N.J.), sophomore Joseph Tierney (Reading,
Mass.) and freshman Jeffrey Menard (Burlington,
Mass.), to increase their lead to 4-1. With 2:22
left in the second period, Crowder would answer with his second
goal of the night before Beacon sophomore Andrew Burke
(Southampton, Penn.) would follow that up with a goal just
18 tics later, cutting the Trinity lead to 4-3 before the end of
the period.
Sophomore Jimmy Ennis (Roslindale,
Mass.) tied the game early in the final
period, which would go unanswered by the Bantams. Despite
late scoring opportunities in regulation and overtime, neither team
was able to capitalize as time expired with the teams at a
deadlock.
Junior goaltender Wesley Vesprini (Lexington,
Mass.) finished the game with 35 stops in net for the
Bantams, senior Ryan Donovan (Rexford, N.Y) made
12 saves and allowed four goals for the Beacons, and sophomore
teammate Kevin Bendel (Denville, N.J.) made 14
stops and allowed no goals in split minutes.
Trinity hosts Babson College tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. at
Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Trinity
College.
