- Junior forward Julia Baily (Farmington, Conn.)
scored a game-high 16 points and added a team-high eight rebounds
to lead the visiting Tufts University Jumbos to a 64-42 win over
the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this evening at
Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 15-4 overall and 3-3 in
the NESCAC with its second consecutive loss, while the Jumbos,
ranked No. 15 in the nation, improve to 17-2 overall and 6-1 in the
league with their fifth victory in a row.
Tufts, which led the entire game, made its first four shots and
raced out to a 9-2 lead, before Trinity closed the gap to two
points at 15-13 on a steal and layup by sophomore guard
Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, R.I.) midway through
the first half. The Jumbos outscored Trinity, 14-2, over the
next 10 minutes to take a 29-15 lead into the break. Tufts
held the Bantams to six field goals in 25 attempts in the first
half. Trinity trailed by as many as 19 points in the second
half, but pulled within 12 at 52-40 on a jumper by junior forward
Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.) at the 6:26
mark. Tufts again took control defensively to end the game,
holding Trinity without a point over the final five minutes of the
contest.
Sophomore guard Colleen Hart (Needham, Mass.)
totaled 14 points and five assists for the Jumbos, while senior
center Katie Tausanovich (Lyme, N.H.) added 12
points and seven boards. Junior co-captain guard
Claire Arnstein (Hicksville, N.Y.) was the lone
Bantam in double figures in scoring with 10 points and Card notched
a game-high 10 boards and a pair of blocked shots. Tufts
outrebounded Trinity, 52-34, and won despite missing nine out of 13
tries from the foul line.
