Hartford, Conn. - Strong defensive play and 13 saves from
senior goalkeeper Graham Fadden (New Canaan,
Conn.) gave the Trinity College Bantams to an 6-3 win over
the visiting New England Small Athletic Association (NESCAC) rival
Williams College Ephs in men's lacrosse action this afternoon on
Campus Field. Trinity improves to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the
league, while the Ephs fall to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the
NESCAC.
With the game in a scoreless deadlock for the majority of the first
period, Trinity senior co-captain Rob Mountain (New Canaan,
Conn.) broke the ice to put Trinity on the board late in
the first, giving the Bantams a 1-0 advantage, one they would not
relinquish. Trinity padded their lead to 4-0 in the first
half behind goals from senior Thomas Rogers (Simsbury,
Conn.), another from Mountain, and senior Brad
Hunnewell (Chestnut Hill, Mass.).
The lead was barely comfortable for the Bantams who watched the
Ephs respond with three straight goals, two from 28 and one from 9,
to cut the Trinity lead to 4-3. But Williams was unable to
tie the game, thanks to a staunch defensive effort by the Bantams
who were able to keep the Ephs out of the net in the final period
of play.
Trinity iced the game with fourth period goals from senior
co-captain Art Schweitzer (Alexandria, Va.) and
sophomore Max Alderman (Sudbury, Mass.).
Williams senior goalkeeper Michael Gerbush (Glen Head,
N.Y.) made 11 saves for the Ephs.
Trinity travels to NESCAC rival Wesleyan University for a 4 p.m.
matchup against the Cardinals this Wed., April 1.
