Cullen Ties College Record for Goals in a
Season
Hartford, Conn. - Senior midfielder Mike Stone
(Boston, Mass.) scored four goals including the
game-winner with 26 seconds on the clock to lead the Middlebury
College to a 12-11 win over the Trinity College Bantams in a battle
of nationally ranked New England Small Athletic Association
(NESCAC) teams this afternoon on Campus Field. Trinity,
ranked No. 19 in the nation, falls to 10-4 overall and 4-4 in the
NESCAC while the Panthers, No. 4 in the nation, improve to 11-1
overall and 7-1 in the league.
Senior Tom Petty (Newburyport, Mass.) put
Middlebury on top with the game's first goal within the first
minute of action. Trinity would score four of the next five
goals, including two from senior Connor Hustava (St. Louis,
Mo.) to take a 4-2 lead.
The Panthers did not see another lead since jumping on top 1-0,
until the final period when junior Chris Teves (Wellesley,
Mass.) would break a 9-9 tie with 8:51 remaining on the
clock. Stone would follow that up with a goal before Trinity
senior Thomas Rogers (Simsbury, Conn.) brought the
Bantams within one, setting up junior Harper Cullen
(Rehoboth Beach, Del.) for the game-tying tally with 2:34
remaining. The goal was of significance, putting Cullen at
the top of the Trinity history books, as it was his 43rd of the
season, tying him with Ryan Martin and Scott Growney for the
College's all-time single season goal scoring record.
Senior goaltender Pete Britt (Summit, N.J.) made
seven saves in net for the Panthers and senior goaltender
Graham Fadden (New Canaan, Conn.) made 12 saves
for the Bantams. Hustava finished the game with three goals
and an assist and sophomore Max Alderman (Sudbury,
Mass.) had a goal and four assists to lead the Trinity
offense.
This afternoon's game was the last home match of the regular
season. Trinity travels to Amherst to face the Lord Jeffs on
Fri., April 24 at 6 p.m. for their final game of the regular
