Hartford, Conn. - Sophomores Caitlin Irvine (Westwood,
Mass.) and Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead,
N.H.) combined for nine goals and two assists to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 15-6 win over the visiting Springfield
College Pride in women's lacrosse action this evening on Sheppard
Field. Trinity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, improves to 8-2,
while the Pride falls to 7-3 with its first loss in seven
games.
Romanowsky scored 36 seconds into the game and three times in
the first 5:36 to help the Bantams build a 6-0 lead midway through
the first half. Leading, 10-3, at the break, Trinity scored
the first five goals of the second half, including three by
Irvine. Trinity dominated the draw, 17-6, including a
team-high five draw controls by senior co-captain Kristina
Scontras (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).
Irvine finished with five goals and Romanowsky had four goals,
while each tallied an assist. Trinity senior attacker
Jesse Schultz (Troy, N.Y.) and sophomore
midfielder Alisen Urquhart (Redding, Conn.) scored
twice each and freshman goalie Stephanie Fisher (Brunswick,
Maine) made eight saves in the Bantam goal. Senior
captain attacker Heather Dobson (Longmeadow,
Mass.) paced the Springfield offense with two goals and
two assists, while junior midfielder Alexandra Bazzano
(Newington, Conn.) scored twice, and junior Lauren
McAulay (Yorktown, N.Y.) made 13 stops in goal.
