Hartford, Conn. - Junior Laura Komarek (Plymouth,
Minn.) scored a goal and collected two assists to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 5-3 victory over the visiting Colby
College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this evening at Williams
Rink. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation, improves to 14-1-2
overall and 7-1-2 in the NESCAC with its 11th win in a row, while
the Mules drop to 2-10-5 overall and 0-6-3 in the league.
Sophomore defender Julie Pesta (Oxford, Penn.)
got the scoring started 2:30 into the game to give the Bantams a
quick 1-0 lead. Senior forward tri-captain Kaitlyn
Conway (Andover, Mass.) answered for Colby just 33 seconds
later, tying the game at one apiece. Trinity would regain the
lead less than a minute later, when freshman defender
Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was able to
find the back of the net to give the Bantams a 2-1 edge.
Trinity opened the second period with goals from senior forward
Britney McKenna (Rye, N.H.) and the eventual
game-winner from junior Sarah Kohn (Winchester,
Mass.), to give the Bantams some breathing space and a 4-1
lead. Colby closed out the period strong with two straight
goals from junior forward tri-captain Stephanie Scarpato
(Osterville, Mass.), the second of which coming with 20
seconds remaining in the period. Holding a 4-3 lead
throughout the third period, Komarek helped seal the win for the
Bantams, scoring a power play goal with 1:38 showing on the
clock.
Trinity senior tri-captain goalkeeper Isabel Iwachiw
(New York, N.Y.) made 21 saves for the Bantams, while
Colby junior goalkeeper Loni Pisani (Kanata,
Ontario) blocked 47 of 52 Trinity shots.
