Waterville, Maine - Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury,
Mass.) had 18 points and 14 rebounds, as the Colby College
Mules pulled away for a 75-62 win over the visiting Trinity College
Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's basketball action this evening at Wadsworth
Gymnasium. Colby, winners of four straight games, moves to
15-2 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC, while the Bantams fall to 14-4
overall and 2-2 in the league.
Cappelloni had all 14 of her rebounds on the defensive end as
the Mules had a 47-38 rebounding advantage. She also shot 4-for-7
from 3-point range and 6-for-6 from the foul line. Cappelloni
moved into 10th place on Colby's all-time scoring list with 1,092
points, breaking a tie with Wendy Bonner '05 (1,074 points) and
also passing Debbie Adams '90 (1,088). Cappelloni needs six more
points to move up two more places on the list. The Mules had
scoring balance, as Julianne Kowalski (Montville,
N.J.) had 11 points and six rebounds in the second half to
finish with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Rachael Mack
(Augusta, Maine) added 12 points and nine rebounds,
Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) had 11 points and four
assists, and Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) had
10 points and three steals.
After Colby took a 30-28 halftime lead, the game stayed tight
for the opening five minutes of the second half. Trinity took a
36-33 lead when junior forward Rebecca Cohn (San Francisco,
Calif.) hit a jumper with 17:32 to play. The Mules,
though, went on a 22-5 run after that to take a 55-41 lead. Colby
hit five 3-point shots during the run. Trinity got as close
as 57-54 with 6:37 left in the game on a 3-point shot by sophomore
guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.), but the
Mules held firm and pushed the lead to double digits over the final
five minutes. Sophomore guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio
(Waterbury, Conn.) paced Trinity with 16 points, while
Royals had 11 points. Cohn (San Francisco, Calif.) added eight
points and eight rebounds.
