WATERVILLE, Maine --- Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) scored a
team-high 19 points to lead the second-seeded Colby College women's
basketball team to a 65-57 win over Trinity College in the New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship
Tournament quarterfinal game this afternoon at Wadsworth
Gymnasium. Trinity closes the season at 15-9, while Colby
improves to 22-3 overall and will play in a NESCAC semifinal next
Saturday.
Trinity hung with Colby in the early stages of the game,
trailing 32-29 at halftime, but the Mules were able to pull away in
the second half. Colby led by three points, 41-38,
before going on a 9-2 run to take a 52-40 lead. Colby increased
their lead to 60-45 with 5:12 to play, but the Bantams were able to
cut the lead to seven points when Arnstein hit a jumper with just
51 seconds to play. Diana Manduca (Portland,
Maine) hit two clutch free throws to push the lead to nine
and put the game out of reach for the Bantams.
Trinity, the seventh seed in the Tournament, received 19 points
from Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) and 12
from fellow guard Michelle Royals (Torrington,
Conn.). Christine Card (Waterbury, Conn.)
added seven points and a game-high nine rebounds, while
Claire Arnstein (Hicksville, N.Y.) had eight
points and five rebounds.
Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) had 12
points, six rebounds, and a team-high three assists for the Mules.
Samantha Allen (Bridgton, Maine) was 3-for-6 from
3-point range in scoring nine points, while Rachel Mack
(Augusta, Maine) had eight points and six rebounds.
Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) came off the bench
and had five points and a team-best seven rebounds.
