New London, Conn.—The Trinity College women's
lacrosse team opened the 2010 New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) season Saturday afternoon with a 17-6 victory
against Connecticut College in New London. Fueled by a 7-to-0
first half run, the Bantams carried a 10-4 lead into the break and
never looked back.
First-year Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.)
erupted with five goals to lead the Bantams in her collegiate
debut. Junior midfielder Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead,
N.H.) notched seven points with four goals and three
assists for the winning side. Senior Kristin Phelps
(Sudbury, Mass.) scored three goals for the Bantams.
Connecticut College sophomore Hope Barone (North
Kingstown, R.I.) netted two goals and added two draw
controls to go along with a pair of caused turnovers in the
contest. Junior Abby Hill (Stoneham, Mass.)
contributed a goal and an assist and three ground balls for the
Camels, while rookie midfielder Brianna Miller
(Sudbury, Mass.) dished out a pair of assists.
Sophomore net-minder Stephanie Fisher (Brunswick,
Maine) stopped two shots in the victory for Trinity.
Connecticut College sophomore Ashleigh Kowtoniuk
(Johnstown, Pa.) finished with 10 saves and a team-high
four ground balls in goal for the Camels.
