Schenectady, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Rachel
Romanowsky (Hampstead, N.H.) scored three goals
and the visiting Trinity College Bantams came back
from an early 3-0 deficit to pull out a 6-5 victory over the union
College Dutchwomen in women's lacrosse action at Frank Bailey Field
this evening. The Bantams, ranked No. 4 in the
nation, remain undefeated at 6-0, while the No. 13-ranked
Dutchwomen fall to 2-4. Each of Union's four losses have come by
one goal against ranked teams, including the last game, a 9-8 loss
at #1 Salisbury.
Kristin Joyce (Longmeadow, Mass.) opened
the scoring with 27:43 left and scored again with 22:40
left to give Union a 3-0 advantage. But the Bantams got
goals by Romanowsky at 14:37 and 13:32, and then she assisted on
the tying tally by Kaitlin Hildebrand (Berwyn,
Pa.) with 12;49 left. Romanowsky's 15th of the season with
9:29 left in the half provided the 4-3 Trinity lead.
In the first 5:14 of the second half, the Bantams opened up a
6-3 advantage. Senior captain Sarah Remes (Silver Spring,
Md.) and junior Caitlin Irvine (Westwood,
Mass.) scored for Trinity during that span. Cuozzo scored
#5 of the season on a free position with 3:25 left to make it 6-4,
and Lizzy Moran (Unionville, Pa.) scored her third
of the year with 1:09 left from Hine to make it a one goal contest.
Union had a chance to send the game into overtime with a free
position shot by Allie Cuozzo (Norfolk, Mass.)
with six seconds remaining. But the shot went wide and the Bantams
held on, as the Dutchwomen, who had trailed 6-3, scored two goals
in the final 3:25 to pull to within one. Trinity had a 24-17
shot advantage on the day, while the Dutchwomen had a 31-29 ground
ball advantage. The Bantams forced 24 turnovers while Union won
seven of the 13 draw controls. Cat Ruggiero (Huntington,
N.Y.) made 13 save in net while Stephanie Fisher
