Hartford, Conn. – Junior guard Kaitlin Ciarleglio
(Waterbury, Conn.) made six three-pointers in as many
attempts to lead all scorers with 18 points and added four rebounds
and five assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 71-60 win
over the visiting Roger Williams University Hawks in women's
basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity,
playing in just its fourth home game of the season and its first
since December 9, improves to 12-5 with its first win in three
games, while the Hawks drop to 12-4 and have their winning streak
stopped at six games.
Trinity never trailed, scoring the
game's first seven points on a three-point play in the paint
by senior tri-captain C/F Molly McGlynn (Sleepy Hollow,
N.Y.) and a pair of layups by sophomore guard
Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.). After the
first of four three-pointers in four attempts by Hawk freshman
Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) got the visitors on
the board at the 17:27 mark, Trinity used an 8-0 run to take a 15-3
lead with 13:44 left in the first half. Roger Williams scored
the next nine points to close within three at 15-12, before Trinity
extended its advantage to double digits at 25-15 on a jumper by
Napier with just under nine minutes on the clock. Trinity
led, 38-28, at the break and maintained at least a 10-point cushion
for all but the opening moments of the second half.
Trinity shot 50 percent from the field
(29-for-58), while Roger Williams was nearly as accurate at 48.8
percent (21-for-43). Trinity held a slight edge on the
boards, 31-25, and forced 19 turnovers. Crisp on the
offensive end until the final three minutes of the game, the
Bantams recorded assists on 24 of 29 field goals and made seven
three-pointers in12 tries. Bantam freshman forward
Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) came off the
bench to tally 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while
McGlynn finished with 11 points and four rebounds. Napier
notched nine points, five assists, and four steals, and senior
tri-captain forward Rebecca Cohn (San Francisco,
Calif.) tied Hanniford for the team lead on the glass with
five boards. Bovee and sophomore forward Alexandria
Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) paced the Hawks with 14
points apiece, while sophomore Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly,
Pa.) scored 13 points, and junior Ryan Weekes
(Worcester, Mass.) added team-highs of eight rebounds and
five assists.
