Hartford, Conn. – Senior
tri-captain Julianne Kowalski (Montville, N.J.)
was near flawless with her shot, scoring 26 points, including 12-12
from the charity stripe, and adding 13 rebounds, two assists, two
steals, and two blocks to lead the visiting Colby College Mules to
a 58-48 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball
action this evening on Stan Ogrodnik Court at Oosting
Gymnasium. Trinity drops to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in the
NESCAC, while the Mules improve to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the
league with the win.
The Bantams trailed until late in the second
half, when junior Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury,
Conn.) and sophomore Carly Napier (Pittsford,
N.Y.) hit a pair of clutch three-pointers before sophomore
Heather Lyhne (Wethersfield, Conn.) came up with a
steal and found first-year Emily Dixon (Norwood,
Mass.) for a bucket, evening the score at 44-44. A
pair of free throws by Colby junior Rachael Mack (Augusta,
Maine), followed by a three-point play and a three-pointer
by Colby junior tri-captain Aarika Ritchie (Lee,
Maine), gave the Mules some distance, as Colby would go on
to secure the win with perfect free-throw shooting down the
stretch.
The Mules hit 27-31 (.871) foul shots in the
game, led by Kowalski and Mack, who finished a perfect 10-10 from
the line. Make ended the game with 14 points, seven rebounds,
and an assist, while Ritchie scored 16 points. All but
two of Colby's 58 points were scored by Kowalski, Mack, and
Ritchie.
Napier finished the game with 17 points, and
added three assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block, while Lyhne
scored four points to go along with six rebounds, three steals, two
assists and a block in the game. Ciarleglio hit three
three-pointers for nine points, and added two blocks, two assists,
and a steal.
