Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain
center Jessie Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) had 16
points, eight rebounds, and two blocks to lead the visiting Bates
College Bobcats to an 83-74 win over the Trinity College Bantams in
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's basketball action this evening at Oosting
Gymnasium. Trinity drops to 12-8 overall and 2-4 in the
NESCAC with its third consecutive setback, while the Bobcats
improve to 17-5 with their fourth triumph in a row.
Bates shot 58.3 percent from the field and
from beyond the arc to offset 20 turnovers and a 41-35 deficit on
the boards. The Bobcats used a 19-6 run late in the first
half to turn a 21-20 Trinity lead into a 37-26 advantage for the
visitors shortly before the break. Bates led by as many as 20
in the second half, but Trinity rallied back late to pull to within
single digits at 79-71 on a long three-pointer by junior guard
Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.).
Royals led the Bantam offense with 15
points, while senior tri-captain guard Kristen Fahey
(Cumberland, R.I.) notched 11 points, six rebounds, and
four assists, and senior tri-captain forward Molly McGlynn
(Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) pulled down a team-high nine
rebounds. Bates sophomore center Brianna Hawkins
(South Portland, Maine) joined Igoe with 16 points, while
senior tri-captain guard Annie Burns (Topsfield,
Mass.) tallied 10 assists.
