Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's
lacrosse team lost for the first time this season, 9-4, to the
visiting Trinity College Bantams this evening at Wachenheim
Field. The Thoroughbreds are 4-1, while the No. 4-ranked
Bantams move to 6-0.
Skidmore hung tough with Trinity in the first half. After spotting
the Bantams a pair of early goals, the Thoroughbreds fought back to
tie it 2-2. Lexi Melville scored her fourth of the season at 19:51
and Lindsay Stavola scored her 17th at 17:00. Trinity then scored
three times in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 5-2 lead
into the break.
The Bantams made it 6-2 at 25:52 of the second on a goal by senior
co-captain attacker Rachel Romanowsky (Hampstead, N.H.). Lauren
McCarthy cut the lead back to three, 6-3 less than a minute later.
Trinity would get goals by sophomore midfielder Megan Leonhard
(Summit, N.J.) and junior midfielder Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.) to
open an 8-3 lead. McCarthy scored her eighth of the season with
6:46 to play to get it back to 8-4, but junior Madeleine Hardy
(Topsfield, Mass. 0 scored on a free position with 3:02 left for
the 9-4 final.
In addition to her two goals, McCarthy had three ground balls and
three draw controls. Abbie Hamlin had four draws, while Leslie
Stebbins had a game-high four ground balls for the
Thoroughbreds. Hardy finished with three goals for
Trinity. The Bantams held a 26-15 shot and 19-16 ground ball
advantage. The Thoroughbreds had a 9-6 edge in draws. Rachel
Klein eight saves for Skidmore, while sophomore Olivia Whitney
(Danvers, Mass.) had four for Trinity.
