Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore attackman Jeff
Hebert (Cornwall, Ontario) notched three goals and three
assists to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 12-8 win over the
visiting Williams College Ephs in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this
afternoon on Jesse/Miller Field. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New
England and No. 15 in the nation, improves to 7-0, while the Ephs
drop to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the league with their third loss in
a row. Trinity is off to a 7-0 start for the first time since
1999-00.
Hebert and sophomore midfielder Nick Shaheen
(Williamsburg, Mass.) each scored in the first 2:18 of the
game, and Hebert fed Shaheen on a long pass from the right corner
of the field parallel to the Williams goal with a picture-perfect
pass that Shaheen one-timed into the Eph net as the horn went off
for the end of the first period.
Williams sophomore attackman Ben Bourke (Media,
Pa.) scored the first of his two goals in the second
quarter to break the Eph scoring drought with 13 minutes on the
clock, and the teams scored 10 goals in the quarter en route to a
7-6 Bantam advantage at the break. The Bantams blanked
Williams, 4-0, in the third frame, with rookie midfielder
Terence Olsen (Weatogue, Conn.) tallying a goal
and an assist during the run, to build an 11-6 advantage, and
junior Peter Johnson (Riverside, Conn.) made five
of his 12 saves in the fourth quarter to help preserve the
victory.
Trinity sophomore Rob Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.)
scored twice, while Hebert, Johnson, and senior captain defenseman
Ted Bascom (Sudbry, Mass.) paced the Bantams with
four ground balls apiece. Trinity held a 31-21 edge on ground
balls, while shots were even at 32 each, and both teams won 11
face-offs. Senior middie Corey Jacobs (Somers,
Conn.), and sophomore middie Will Stewart (South
Salem, N.Y.) joined Bourke with two Eph goals apiece, and
junior Evan Cohen (Syosset, N.Y.) made 11 stops in
the Williams goal.
