Middlebury, Vt. – The No. 3-seeded Williams College Ephs advanced to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Semifinals with a 5-1 win over the No. 6-seeded Trinity College Bantams in a first-round match played at Middlebury College. Trinity will end the year with a 9-8 record and three straight losses, while the Ephs up their mark to 12-6 and will take on No. 2-seeded Middlebury College Panthers in the semifinals on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
Williams held a 3-0 lead after doubles play, with Will Petrie & Kevin Shallcross edging Bantam junior Charles McConnell (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Kayong Lee (Villanova, Pa.), 8-6, at the No. 3 spot. Lee got Trinity on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the first singles match to finish (No. 6), but the Ephs took a 4-1 lead when Bryan Chow was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over McConnell at the No. 5 spot. Trey Meyer clinched the match for the Ephs, picking up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bantam senior tri-captain David Dessau (New York, N.Y.) in the No. 3 slot.
