Box Score Middletown, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams broke a 2-2 tie at 9:13 of the third period with its second power-play goal of the evening and went on to add an empty-net goal with :15 to play to secure a 4-2 neutral-ice men's ice hockey victory here over theStonehill College Skyhawks at Wesleyan University. Trinity improves to 2-0-1 with its second triumph in a row and the Skyhawks fall to 4-5.
Senior captain forward Jeffrey Menard (Burlington, Mass.) netted his first goal of the season to put Trinity ahead for good as he scored from close on the right after receiving a pass from the middle by freshman forward John Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario), finding room on the short side past sophomore keeper Chris Tasiopoulos, who finished the game with 30 saves. With Tasiopoulos pulled in favor of an extra attacker in the final minute, Stonehill lost control of the puck at the Trinity blue line and Bantam sophomore forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) outraced two Skyhawk players to the puck and skated right up to the net before depositing the clincher.
Stonehill led twice in the contest, going ahead, 1-0, at 3:17 of the second frame on a shot along the ice from the left circle by senior Sean McNeil that just curled inside the far post past Trinity junior goalie Ben Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.), who collected 37 stops in the game. After the Bantams evened the count just 1:09 later on a shot from the slot by senior captain forward Zachary Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.), Stonehill regained the lead at 9:41 on a power-play goal by junior Brian Rooney.
Trinity again knotted the count, scoring with just :16 left in the period when a point shot by freshman forward Elie Vered (Ottawa, Ontario) was stopped by Tasiopoulos, but Lombardi was right on the doorstep for the rebound and flipped a high shot into the net. That goal came on the power play as Trinity converted two of five opportunities. Stonehill was 1-for-3 with the extra skater.
