Box Score New London, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantam
men's lacrosse team earned its fourth consecutive victory,
defeating the Connecticut College Camels, 11-7, in a New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest on the
Artificial Turf at Silfen Field this afternoon. The Bantams
improve to 4-2 and are a perfect 3-0 in the NESCAC. The Camels slip
to 2-4 with a 1-4 mark in league action.
Junior midfielder Steve Manning (Tyngsboro, Mass.) had two goals
and two assists to lead the visitors. Jnior midfielder Nick Shaheen
(Williamsburg, Mass.) chipped in with two scores. Junior T.J.
Cholnoky (Greenwich, Conn.) was 7-for-9 on the face off and
accounted for the goal that proved to be the difference in the
third quarter. Senior captain Peter Johnson (Riverside,
Conn.) made seven saves in the cage for the Bantams.
Connecticut College junior midfielder Stephen Eicher (Northport,
N.Y.) scored three goals for the Camels. Junior John Lyons
(Barrington, R.I.) chipped in with two scores. JR Hartgers
(Franklin Lakes, N.J.) finished with a goal and an assist in the
setback. Connecticut College senior Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.)
made 11 saves in the cage.
Eicher opened the scoring with 10 minutes left in the first and
then Hartgers capitalized on an unsettled situation to put the
Camel on top 2-0 with 7:27 remaining in the quarter.
But Trinity responded by scoring the next three goals, pulling
ahead when Terence Olson (Avon, Conn.) scored with 37 seconds
left. However, Eicher answered for the hosts with 7.6 seconds
remaining and the game was tied up at three after one quarter of
action. Trinity controlled the second quarter of action,
holding an 11-to-6 advantage in shots and a 6-to-2 edge in ground
balls. First-year attackman Matthew Hauck (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored
with 1:58 remaining to vault the visitors out to a 6-3 advantage at
the break.
Jack Griffin (Seaford, N.Y.) provided the hosts with a third
period highlight, scoring a man-down goal to make it a 7-4 game
with 8:47 remaining. But Cholnoky cashed in on an extra-man
opportunity with 6:30 to go and Trinity carried an 8-4 lead into
the fourth quarter of play. Lyons and Eicher scored goals in
the fourth and the Camels made it a 9-6 game with 7:27
remaining. Trinity responded with goals from junior attackman
Jeff Hebert (Cornwall, Ontario) and Manning to push the lead back
to 11-6. The visitors held on for the 11-7 triumph.
