Box Score Medford, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams scored six
straight goals during a 20-minute span to turn a 4-3 deficit into a
9-4 lead on their way to an eventual 12-7 win over the Tufts
University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Bello
Field. Junior Megan Leonhard (Summit, NJ) led the No. 5-ranked
Bantams with four goals.
The teams had gone back and forth for the first 18 minutes.
Junior Kerry Eaton ) scored the first three Tufts goals and then
assisted a tally by senior tri-captain Lara Kozin that put the
Jumbos ahead 4-3 with 17:42 remaining until halftime. Trinity
initiated its game-changing run with consecutive goals by junior
Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.). Her pair were the first of five
unanswered goals by the Bantams to close the first half with an 8-4
advantage. The Bantams were 4-for-6 on free-position attempts in
the first 30 minutes. Senior Caite Irvine (Westwood, Mass.) then
scored her third goal 1:40 into the second half to give the Bantams
a 9-4 lead. No. 10-ranked Tufts closed the gap to 9-6 with
back-to-back goals by senior Emily Pillemer . However,
Leonhard netted the next two for Trinity and the Bantams led
comfortably the rest of the way.
Senior co-captain midfielder Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.) had a
goal and three assists for Trinity, which remained unbeaten at 7-0
overall and 4-0 in NESCAC with its 21st consecutive regular-season
win. She also caused two turnovers and controlled two draws.
Leonhard and sophomore Lyndsey Shepard (Hamilton, Mass.) each had
three groundballs for Trinity and junior goalie Olivia Whitney
(Danvers, Mass.) made 10 saves. Senior tri-captain Kelly
Cakert had a stellar game defensively for Tufts, causing five
turnovers. Pillemer added three draw controls to her two goals and
sophomore Kelley Cohen collected four groundballs. Junior goalie
Tess Shapanka was credited with six saves.
