(Westwood, Mass.) scored four goals to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to a 13-6 win over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears
in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's lacrosse action this afternoon on Sheppard
Field. Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation, improves to 9-0
overall and 5-0 in the NESCAC with its 23rd consecutive
regular-season victory, while the No. 9-ranked Polar Bears drop to
6-4 overall and 4-3 in the league. The Bantams avenge their
only loss in the last two seasons, which came in the 2011 NCAA
Quarterfinals on Sheppard Field by a score of 9-6.
Trinity jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 11 minutes and
led, 7-2, at the break. Five straight Bantam scores after
halftime made the score, 12-2, with 18:53 on the clock.
Bowdoin scored three times in final 5:17 to make the score more
respectable. Irvine scored her first two goals during
Trinity's 5-0 spurt to start the game and her last two during
the 5-0 run to open the second half.
Trinity senior co-captain midfielder Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.)
finished with two goals and two assists, while junior midfielder
Megan Leonhard (Summit, N.J.) recorded a hat trick, and junior
goalie Olivia Whitney (Danvers, Mass.) made six saves.
Carolyn Gorajek (Hightstown, N.J.) and Katie Stewart (Chevy Chase,
Md.) scored twice each for Bowdoin, while Stewart also caused three
turnovers, and Tara Connolly (Simsbury, Conn.) stopped seven shots
in the Polar Bear cage.
