Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Down to the final 1:39, sophomore
forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) ripped
a slap shot that deflected off the post and in the goal to give the
Trinity College Bantams a 4-3 lead win over the Wentworth Institute
of Technology Leopards in men's ice hockey action this
afternoon. Trinity improves to 5-1 overall with its third
straight victory, while the Leopards fall to 3-6-1 on the
year.
Trinity jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by first-year
forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) before
Wentworth went on a 3-0 scoring spree to close the first and open
the second periods. Junior Sean McLaughlin (North
Billerica, Mass.), senior captain Andrew Yarber
(Livonia, Mich.), and sophomore Mike Cox
(Marlborough, Mass.) each netted goals in the stretch that
put the Bantams in a hole.
Midway through the second, Trinity sophomore forward
Elie Vered (Ottawa, Ontario) stopped the beeding
by burying a shot in the top left corner of Wentworth's net
to put Trinity back within a goal. Trinity remained in
striking distance, and came up with a game-tying one-timer by
sophomore Joe Horak (St. Louis, Mo.) on a neatly
placed puck by Hawkrigg, 6:03 into the final period, knotting the
game at 3-3. Hawkrigg, Trinity's points leader with 13
points in six games, then delivered the game-winning power play
goal to cap the comeback.
In his second consecutive start, sophomore Nathaniel
Heilbron (West Vancouver, British Columbia) made 25 stops
to move to 2-0 in net for the Bantams. Sophomore goalie
Joel Miller (Calgary, Alberta) finished with 24
saves in the game for the Leopards. Trinity took advantage of
Wentworth miscues in the game, going 4-8 in power play
opportunities. Trinity and Wentworth finished with 28 shots
apiece in the game.
