(Northfield, Ill.) scored three goals to lead the visiting
Connecticut College Camels to a 10-3 victory over the Trinity
College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) men's lacrosse action this afternoon on
Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in
the NESCAC with its second setback in a row, while the Camels,
ranked No. 4 in New England and No. 17 in the nation, improve to
4-2 overall and 4-1 in the league with their second consecutive
win.
Connecticut College scored the game's first five goals,
including the first 49 seconds into the game by senior attackman
Andrew Freedman (Sudbury, Mass.) and two by Sawyer. Sophomore
attackman Matt Hauck (Ridgewood, N.J.) ended the Bantam scoring
drought with 8:03 left in the second quarter, and the teams traded
goals from that point to the break for a 6-2 Camel lead at
halftime. After a scoreless seven-plus minutes in the third
frame, Freedman started a 3-0 Camel rally with his second goal
before Trinity senior midfielder Matt Cohen (East Lyme, Conn.)
ripped a sidearm blast past Connecticut College first-year goalie
Bob Bielstein (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) with 5:49 remaining in the fourth
quarter. Leading, 9-3, the Camels added one more goal to
account for the 10-3 final tally.
Trinity outshot Connecticut College, 32-29, but put only 12
shots on goal, while the Camels finished with a 29-21 edge on
ground balls while committing 28 turnovers to 21 for the
Bantams. The teams combined to go 0-for-5 on extra-man
opportunities. Trinity senior tri-captain attackman Rob
Nogueras (Parkland, Fla.) scored one goal and assisted on a second,
while junior midfielder Terence Olsen (Avon, Conn.) and rookie
face-off man Clay Richard (Medfield, Mass.) scooped three ground
balls, and senior defenseman Dominic Piselli (Rockville Center,
N.Y.) caused a team-high three turnovers. Freedman and junior
middie Thomas Woessner (Old Lyme, Conn.) had two goals and one
assist for Connecticut College, while senior midfielder Brendan
Schrader (Annapolis, Md.) picked up a game-high eight ground balls,
and Sawyer added three caused turnovers. Trinity goalies
Makar Zaverucha (Duxbury, Mass.) and Riley Cahill (South
Glastonbury, Conn.) combined for seven saves, while Bleistein had
nine stops.
