Box Score Middletown, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams dropped a
6-2 decision against the host Wesleyan University Cardinals
in New England Small College Athletic COnference (NESCAC)
men's lacrosse action this afternoon. Wesleyan improves to
10-3 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC, while Trinity drops
to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the league with its second setback in a
row.
Trailing, 3-0, at the break, the Bantams broke the ice as junior
Nick Branholm took a pass from senior Rob Nogueras and fired in a
low shot from long range on the right to make it 3-1 at 12:59 of
the third period. Wesleyan countered 1:15 later, making it
4-1. Nogueras got a goal of his own, his team-leading 23rd of
the year, running the left side after a pass from junior Terence
Olson at 6:41. Wesleyan scored once near the end of the third
quarter, and again early in the fourth frame to round out the
scoring.
Wesleyan outshot Trinity, 44-22, and put 25 shots on net to just
nine by the Bantams. Trinity sophomore goalie Mickey
Zaverucha was outstanding , stopping 19 shots, many at close range
and in rapid succession. Wesleyan keeper Mark Simmons had
seven stops. Trinity committed 32 turnovers, while the
Cardinals were guilty of 16. Wesleyan senior defender Mike
Robinson led the way with four caused turnovers and had four ground
balls. Stanton led in the GB department with six.
Trinity got four grounders each from junior faceoff man Tim
Reichert and junior Chase Growney. Senior defender Dom
Piselli led the Bantams with two caused turnovers.
