Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Wins At Middlebury

Box Score

Middlebury, Vt. - Junior forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) dished out four assists to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams (8-3, 4-2) to a 6-3 victory over the Middlebury College Panthers (5-4-2, 2-4-1) in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action action in Kenyon Arena. Trinity improves to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the NESCAC, while Middlebury falls to 5-4-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the league.

Trinity took a 1-0 lead 8:30 into the first period with the seventh of the season from sophomore forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario).  Brewer made a pass from the left boards across the zone to Hawkrigg for the finish. The Bantams struck again at 10:57 on the power play as Brewer made a quick pass down low after a rebound to freshman forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.) who found the back of the net.

Middlebury nearly cut the lead in half at the 16:29 mark but George Ordway's shot hit the crossbar. The Panthers had a golden opportunity following the near miss as they went on a five minute major power play. The advantage was cut short due to a penalty, with Trinity scoring a four-on-four goal. Brewer took the puck away and found sophomore forward Elie Vered (Ottawa, Ontario) for a quick back-handed goal. The first period ended with the Bantams holding a 3-0 lead despite a 14-11 shot margin in Middlebury's favor.

Trinity wasted little time in the second period, increasing its lead to 4-1 when Orlando poked in his own rebound for his team-leading 11th of the season. Middlebury got on the board 8:46 into the period when Matt Silcoff picked up a loose puck and broke into the slot before finding the back of the net for his second of the season.  The Bantams bounced right back 38 seconds later when Brewer went behind the net before feeding Hawkrigg in the slot for a quick one-timer. Just 52 seconds later, junior forward Liam McKillop (New York, N.Y.) broke in and scored after taking a feed from rookie forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska) to make it a 6-1 game.

Middlebury netted its second of the game with 1:27 left to go in the period with a five-on-three power play goal. Louis Belisle and Brendan McGovern passed the puck back and forth before Belisle netted his team-leading seventh of the year from the right side. Middlebury again controlled the shots, holding an 18-8 advantage in the period but found themselves trailing 6-2.  Middlebury's Michael Longo scored the only goal of the third session, converting on a rebound after Derek Pimentel's original shot was saved.  The Panthers finished with a 41-24 shots advantage in the game, with Bantam senior Ben Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.) making 38 saves to earn the win. Drew Michals (8 saves, 3 GA, 20 MP) and Nick BonDurant (10 saves, 3 GA, 40 MP) both saw action for the Panthers.
