Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College men's soccer team fell to visiting Tufts, 2-0, on Sunday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Campus Field. With the loss, the Bantams move to 5-4-2 on the year and 1-4-2 in conference play, while the Jumbos won their third game in a row to improve to 7-1-3 overall and 5-0-2 in conference tilts.

Tufts sophomore goalkeeper Scott Greenwood turned aside all three shots he faced to earn the shutout victory. On the opposite end, first-year netminder Mateo Zabala (Paterson, N.J.) got the start for Trinity and made a pair of saves in just under 27 minutes of action and senior Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) stopped seven shots in a losing effort.

In the first half, both team had scoring opportunities, but neither squad was able to break through. Both Zabala and Katz made impressive saves to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Tufts struck first as Trinity was whistled for a handball in the box. Senior forward Gus Santos took the penalty kick and fired a shot that found the back of the net. Ten minutes after Santos' tally, senior co-captain Maxime Hoppenot added an insurance goal. Sophomore midfielder Nathan Majumder started the play and picked up the assist as Hoppenot gave the Jumbos some breathing room.

Trinity sophomore forward Cody Savonen (Orleans, Mass.) had a team-high two shots on goal, while sophomore midfielder Oliver Murphy (Montclair, N.J.) had one shot on target.

Tufts held a 21-6 advantage in shots and Trinity took four corner kicks to the Jumbos nine.

Trinity returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, with a non-conference game versus in-state rival Western Connecticut State at 4:00 p.m.
