Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Shannon Farrell
(Kennebunk, Maine) scored two goals and the Trinity
defense was staunch in a 5-1 win over the Colby College Mules in
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice
hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink at the Koeppel
Community Sports Center. The game marks the end of a 13-game
homestand, in which Trinity compiled a 9-3-1 record, winning their
last six games. The Bantams improve to 10-5-3 on the year and
5-4-1 in the NESCAC while the Mules drop to 5-10-2 overall and
3-8-1 in the league.
Trinity was running on all cylinders from the get go, netting three
first period goals before Colby had a chance to respond with a
power play score from junior Lauren Guarente (Wellesley,
Mass.) to start the second frame. Senior co-captain
Lauren Glynn (Westwood, Mass.) had started things
off with a goal for the Bantams, before Farrell tripled her scoring
total on the season with her second and third goals of the year,
which both came in the opening period.
Trinity junior Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton,
Mass.) netted her sixth goal of the year midway through
the second period, giving the Bantams a comfortable 4-1
advantage. Trinity sophomore Brooke Heron (South
Salem, N.Y.) secured the victory midway through the third,
putting the Bantams up, 5-1, which proved to be an insurmountable
difference for the Mules to overcome.
Backed by a strong defensive effort, Trinity senior goalie
Alexa Pujol (New Canaan, Conn.) made 27 saves to
earn her fortieth career win in net, improving her record this
season to 5-2-1. Colby senior captain Brianne Wheeler
(Brussels, Ontario) finished with 26 stops in net for the
Mules.
Trinity has now won their last seven contests with Colby.
The Bantams have outscored their opponents, 48-22, over their red
hot homestand, including a mark of 24-6 over their six-game win
streak. Trinity will play a pair of road doubleheaders
against Bowdoin and Amherst, before ending their regular season
with away/home games against Wesleyan.
