Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams lost, 5-1, against the visiting Williams College Ephs in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis match this afternoon inside the Ferris Athletic Center Field House due to windy weather. Trinity drops to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the league with its fourth setback in a row, while the No. 5-ranked Ephs improve to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the NESCAC with their first win in three matches.
Trinity junior tri-captain Dan Carpenter (Wayzata, Minn.) and David Myers (Winnetka, Ill.) earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior Ilya Levin (Wellesley, Mass.) and freshman Rutendo Matingo (Weston, Mass.) fell just short with a 9-7 loss at third doubles to put the score at 2-1 in the visitors' favor entering singles play. Conrad Harron and Rohan Shastri won in straight sets to put Williams ahead, 4-1, although Mandel went down fighting with a 7-5 loss in his second set against Harron in the No. 2 position. Carpenter, ranked No. 3 in the Northeast among singles players, battled No. 4-ranked Micheli for each point, but fell, 7-6, 7-6, and Williams took the decision.
