Brunswick, Maine – The fifth-seeded Trinity College men's tennis team fell to host and No. 4 seed Bowdoin, 5-1, on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2014 NESCAC Tournament at Maine Pines Tennis Club.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 11-8 on the season and advance to take on top-seeded Middlebury tomorrow afternoon. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Bantams as they move to 9-8 overall.
Trinity earned the first point of the match as the duo of Daniel Carpenter (Wayzata, Minn.) and David Myers (Winnetka, Ill.) scored an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Bowdoin bounced back to tie the match at one as their tandem won, 8-4, at No. 3. The doubles point was decided in a hard-fought battle at No. 2 as Bowdoin's Noah Bragg and Kyle Wolstencroft outlasted Trinity's Musyoka Mbithi (Orange, N.J.) and Ford Traff (Wayzata, Minn.) for a 9-7 triumph.
In singles play, the Polar Bears took matches at No. 3, No. 2 and No. 5. At No. 4, Mbithi was tied at six in the first set with Chris Lord.
