Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College women's basketball team fell to visiting Hamilton, 60-50, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Saturday afternoon inside Oosting Gymnasium on Stan Ogrodnik Court. With the win, the Continentals improve to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Bantams move to 4-8 on the year and 0-2 in league contests.
Offensively, Hamilton was paced by junior forward Sam Graber with a double-double thanks to a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Theresa Salud was the other Continental in double figures with 12 points, highlighted by a trio of three-point field goals. First-year Samantha Srinivasan played well off the bench for the visitors with five points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists.
Junior forward Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) led the Trinity attack once again with 13 points and six rebounds. Off the bench, the Bantams received quality production from forwards Melanie Mills (Woodstock, Conn.) and Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) in the post. Mills recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards, while Llerena netted five points and pulled down eight rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end.
The story of the contest was the first-half defense of the Continentals. Hamilton jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the game. Hamilton controlled the tempo early in the game, taking a 16-5 lead nine minutes into play following a jumper from senior guard Adrianna Pulford. The Continentals defense held Trinity to single digits for the first 15 minutes of action as a trey from junior guard Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y.) pulled the Bantams within eight at 20-12. The visitors closed out the opening half on an 11-5 run to hold a 31-17 heading into halftime.
Hamilton came out aggressive in the second half, building their lead to as many as 19 points with 11 and a half minutes left in the game following a layup and a made free throw from Graber. Trailing by 18 at 48-30 with nine minutes remaining, the Bantams went on an 8-0 run capped by a Mills layup. Trinity pulled within single digits with fourth minutes left in the game courtesy of a Raiti jumper, but Hamilton regained its composure and held off the late charge by the Bantams to escape victorious.
Trinity returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 13, with a non-conference clash versus New Paltz State at 7:00 p.m.
