Box Score

Brunswick, Maine – The No. 2 Trinity College women's lacrosse team scored the final four goals to net an 11-6 victory on the road versus No. 5 Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Field in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action. With their eighth straight win, the Bantams improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Polar Bears moved 6-2 on the year and 3-2 in conference tilts.

Junior midfielder Martha Griffin (Exeter, N.H.) was the spark for Trinity offensively, particularly in the second half, as she scored three of her game-high four goals in the final 14:04 to preserve the win. Sophomore Karly Simpson (South Hadley, Mass.) had arguable her strongest game of the spring as she registered two markers and three assists while senior tri-captain Renee Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) had two goals as well for the Bantams. Sophomore Clare Lyne (Concord, Mass.) won a game-high four draw controls for the visitors, while Griffin and sophomore midfielder Meghan Collins (Marblehead, Mass.) won three draw controls apiece. Defensively, senior midfielder Lindsay Mullaney (Boston, Mass.) caused two turnovers and Griffin grabbed five groundballs.

Bowdoin was led by on the offensive end by Lindsay Picard and Clare McLaughlin with two tallies apiece.

The Bantams scored the first three goals of the game as the Bowdoin offense struggled to get going in the opening minutes. Olsen notched both of her goals in the first 13 minutes of action to help Trinity get off to the good start. Polar Bear netminder Isabel Sippel kept her team in the contest, stopping eight shots in the first half to keep Bowdoin within striking distance. The hosts did not get on the scoreboard until McLaughlin found the back of the net with 1:27 left before the break, but quickly doubled their total 25 seconds later when Megan O'Connor scored to trim the lead to 3-2. Simpson notched an unassisted goal just 10 seconds before the horn to make it 4-2 Trinity at halftime.

Trinity scored the first two goals of the second half and led 6-2 following an Allie Barrett (Concord, Mass.) goal with 21:45 to play. Bowdoin found their stride over the next 10 minutes, rolling off a 4-1 run, keyed by a pair of Picard goals, and closed to within 7-6 following an Olivia Raisner score with 11:43 to play. Bowdoin won the ensuing draw control, but turned the ball over in their offensive end. Trinity cashed in with a goal from Simpson to regain a two-goal advantage at 8-6 with 7:54 to go. The Bantams won the next two draws and Griffin scored on both possessions to put the contest out of reach.

Trinity held a 13-6 edge in draw controls for the game and outshot Bowdoin, 28-22. Sippel ended with 13 saves for the Polar Bears while first-year goalie Zoe Ferguson (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished with four saves (two goals allowed) in the opening half before giving way to junior Emily Mooney (New York, N.Y.), who stopped four shots (four goals allowed) in the second period.
