Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College men's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end with a 14-13 defeat versus No. 5 Amherst on Wednesday afternoon in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Senior Day.

With the score knotted at 13-13 and less than a minute remaining in regulation, Amherst first-year midfielder Connor Sheehan took a feed from junior Quinn Moroney and buried the game-winner.

With the win, the Lord Jeffs end the regular season with a 14-1 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play. The Bantams end 2015 with a 4-11 mark and a 2-8 record in conference tilts.

Offensively, junior Michael McQuiston (Greenwich, Conn.) had a career day for Trinity as tallied six goals on six shots and scooped three ground balls. Classmate Ryan DeSimone (Saint James, N.Y.) tallied two goals and added a pair of assists for the Bantams, while senior Matthew Hauck (Ridgewood, N.J.) recorded one marker and had two helpers in his final collegiate home contest. Trinity came out of the gates quickly, scoring the first three goals of the game over a five-minute stretch to hold the early edge. After a Max Killian goal at the 9:02 of the opening quarter cut the deficit to two, Trinity pulled back ahead by three less than 30 seconds later courtesy of a DeSimone strike. Over the next six minutes, Amherst reeled of four unanswered goals, capped by an unassisted Mike Litner tally to take their first lead of the game. Trinity knotted the game at five with less than a minute left in the first quarter as DeSimone ended a wild 15 minutes with his 22nd goal of the spring.

Trinity potted the first two markers of the second quarter as McQuiston converted a pair of Pappas passes to give the Bantams a 7-5 edge. The nationally-ranked Jeffs would answer, closing the first half with four unanswered tallies to take a 9-7 advantage into halftime.

Trinity outscored Amherst, 5-1, in the third quarter to erase a two-goal deficit and take a 12-10 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lord Jeff wasted little time tying the game in the fourth quarter, scoring two goals 12 seconds apart following a Trinity penalty with 10 minutes left in the game. Over the next five minutes the goaltenders took over as Amherst's Cody Tranbarger and Trinity's Mickey Zaverucha (Dusbury, Mass.) each made big saves to keep their teams in the game. With 5:06 left in the game Litner finished a pass from Moroney to give the visitors a 13-12 edge.
