Box Score Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore goalie Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.) recorded her fourth straight shutout behind a stifling Bantams defense as the Trinity College women's hockey team powered past the Colby College Mules on Saturday afternoon. The victory is Trinity's third in a row and second consecutive against Colby as the Bantams improve to 9-7-1 overall and 3-6-1 in New England Small Conference (NESCAC) action while Colby falls to 5-11-3 overall and 3-8-1 in conference play.
Trinity scored early and often, ignited by senior Cheeky Herr's (Princeton, N.J.) second goal in as many days that came less than a minute into play thanks to an assist from senior assistant captain Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.). Senior Shelby Labe (Pine Brook, N.J.) potted her fourth goal of the year with less than three minutes remaining in the first period, followed by a third Bantam goal from sophomore Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) that was ripped past Colby goalkeeper Angelica Crites (Middleboro, Mass.) into the top shelf. Finn's goal was assisted by freshman Allison Slowe (Medfield, Mass.) for the Massachusetts native's first career point.
The Bantams maintained the pressure in the second period, outshooting the Mules 12-3 as they added two more goals to the lead. Junior defender Jessica Stowell (Hadley, Mass.) beat Crites for her second goal of the season, assisted by senior assistant captain Brooke Heron (Ridgefield, Conn.), followed by a short-handed goal from Trinity sophomore Melissa Maffeo (Melrose, Mass.).
In the third period, with the game already in hand, junior forward Kate Fraley (Edina, Minn.) netted her sixth goal of the season with 3:58 remaining in the game to make it 6-0 in favor of the hosts as the final horn sounded.
Belinskas stopped all 17 shots she faced on the afternoon, good for her fifth shutout of the season while Crites finished with 21 saves. The Bantams return to action on Friday, February 5, when they travel to Williams College for a Friday-Saturday conference doubleheader.
