Box Score Amherst, Mass. - The Trinity College men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to top-seeded Amherst College on Saturday afternoon in the Quarterfinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship Tournament. The Bantams, the No. 8 seed of the tournament, finish their season with a 7-7-2 record while the Purple & White advance to next weekend's semifinal round to face Bowdoin College.
Almost 38 minutes elapsed in the first half without a score, until Amherst senior Cameron Bean (Atlanta, Ga.) found classmate Christopher Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) who beat Bantam senior goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Amherst doubled up just three minutes as Bean scored the second goal of the game to give the Purple & White a 2-0 advantage entering halftime.
Just four minutes into the second half, Bryce Ciambella (Ocala, Fla.) scored his eighth goal of the season via assists from Martin and Rohan Sood (Millburn, N.J.) to break open a three-goal lead. Trinity senior captain Sam Milbury (Peabody, Mass.) had a solid scoring chance for Trinity at the 62:06 mark, as he powered a header towards goal from the top left of the box, but Amherst goalie Lee Owen (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) dove to his left to smother the attempt.
Amherst iced the game with its fourth goal of the game in the 77th minute when junior Kieran Bellew (Invercargill, New Zealand) found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Dane Lind (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.). Trinity senior captain Tobias Gimand (Copenhagen, Denmark) ended the shutout with his third goal of the season in the 81st minute as he beat Owen on a penalty kick for Owen's lone blemish of the day. Owen finished the game with eight saves.
